Publisher’s Column

When we launched Baby Shop magazine 14 years ago, I wrestled with the Publication Manager to allocate a half page spot for me in which I could write my column. My thinking was that I would use this space to address issues our industry faces AND to promote Baby Shop as the publication of choice with our readers and advertisers. I was very flattered when the very first column I wrote in 1992 was quoted on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. The piece that was quoted in the November 5, 1992 WSJ urged manufacturers to end or reduce minimum orders, as such requirements hurt small retailers.

Over the years, I have written various pieces that may have ruffled the feathers of one group or another in our industry. Today, however, I wish to use this space to seek support for the many Children’s Hospitals across the country. Being associated with the juvenile product industry, I feel all of us bear the burden and responsibility of supporting children who are sick or suffering from ailments that do not yet have a cure. I wish to rally manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers to actively get involved in the fund raising activities that almost all Children’s Hospitals have. Use your store location to display and collect funds for these hospitals, and please contribute your time, money, and other resources to aid in the research they do in finding cures for our children.

I hope that all of our readers will join me in making whatever contribution they can to this cause.
